Quirky Shopping

I’m not sure what’s sold in this store, but something tells me it has nothing to do with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Just one example of quirky shopping in Guangzhou.

I need a beer and a lighter, STAT!

This is yet another example. Don’t you hate it when you go to the store looking for that perfect mannequin, only to find that none are for sale?!?  Well, your dreams have just come true. Even better, this wasn’t the only store of its kind we saw while we were out that day.

I like to think they come alive at night, a la Kim Cattrall in the 80s (click this pic for the reference)

In fairness these are probably for wholesale purchase only, although I’m sure if you walk in, bat your eyelashes and pretend not to speak a lick of Chinese they’ll likely sell one or two to an unassuming foreigner (perhaps yours truly has had recent success doing just that…not with mannequins of course).  Because Guangzhou is a manufacturing hub, much of its merchandise is comprised of wholesale products.  One of these days I’ll do a post on the various markets in the city….they have entire city blocks devoted to the sale of one particular category. Office supplies, kitchen items, eyeglasses, pearls, electronics…all of these have their very own markets. Crazy!
